Carrie Lee Cummins Obituary (1965 - 2020)

Carrie Lee Cummins, 54, of Nokomis passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. She was born October 9, 1965 in St. Louis, MO, daughter of the late Bobby Jo & Lela Maxine (Watson) Cummins. Carrie was a graduate of Pana High School, Class of 1983 and attended Lake Land College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pana and worked for Pana News in advertising & graphic design. Carrie enjoyed watching Star Trek, Dr. Who & British cooking shows and collecting vintage jewelry. She loved animals and was a very active member of the Humane Society. Carrie was a unique person with a quirky sense of humor. She was one of the kindest people you would every meet and she never knew a stranger, even if she was in another country. Carrie is survived by her fiance, Don Werner, Nokomis, IL; siblings: Keeta Hicks, Texas; Jennifer (Fred) Christian, Missouri; Bobbi Marie (Doug) Deason, Mississippi; nephew, Jesse (Alicia) Hicks; nieces: Angie (Doug) Allen, Stacie Hicks (Amanda Wiggins), Angela Quintano, Samantha Deason, Jennifer (Steve) Voss, Becky (Rodney) Simpson, Matthew (Lea) Christian; great nieces & nephews: Jessen Sloan, Coda Sloan, Sean Roach, Caiden Deason, Ella Hicks, Gabby Quintano, Cole Christian, Tyler Christian, Nicholas Simpson, Christopher Simpson, Zoe Wiggins, Zach Wiggins; best friend, Kelli Smith (fiance, Jason Askew), Pana, IL and Kelli's children, who Carrie considered her own: Anthony (Tiffany) Smith & A.J. (Kayla) Smith and their children. In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by her aunt, Norma Watson; brother-in-law, Ed Hicks & great nephew, Kenny Roach. Per Carrie's wishes, she gave the gift of life through Gift of Hope and cremation rites followed. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. with Jesse Hicks officiating. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in Linwood Cemetery, Pana. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until service time in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carrie's honor may be made to the family and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
