J. Gregory Holthaus Obituary (1933 - 2017)

nJ. Gregory Holthaus, 83, of Pana, died Sunday, March 19, 2017 in his home. He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. He was born September 3, 1933 in Oconee, son of the late Bernard C. & Margaret (Ibison) Holthaus. Greg was a graduate of Pana High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force and lived in the Pana & Oconee areas his entire life. Greg was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, Pana; 60 year member of the Roy Ireland American Legion, Oconee; past member of the carpenters union; and 30 year member of Pana Rosary Group. He was a retired carpenter. He was employed with his dad, building churches, including the First United Methodist Church in Pana. He later worked with his brothers and built First National Bank of Pana. In 1979, he went to work in Decatur for Fischer Stone, where he was a superintendent, and during that time built the fire station in Pana. He then built homes for Oak Terrace. He loved being with his children, grandchildren and extended families. He had a great devotion to the Rosary and prayed many, many rosaries for them and for the whole world. J. (Beth) Holthaus, Pana, IL; Cheryl Holthaus, Springfield, IL; Sheila (Eric) Siegert, Pana, IL; Kent (Jennifer) Holthaus, Pana, IL; grandchildren: Zach (Kayleigh) Holthaus, East Peoria, IL; Joseph (Grace) Holthaus, Pana, IL; Grace (Cody) McLaughlin, Pana, IL; John Holthaus, Pana, IL; Britani Siegert, Athens, IL; Katelyn Siegert, Normal, IL; Lexie Siegert, Pana, IL; Erin, Claire, Ben, & Rachel Holthaus, Pana, IL; brother: Mike Holthaus, Pana, IL; and sisters: Marie McCarthy, Baldwin, MO; Connie Elam, Decatur, IL; Barbara Villaobos, Florissant, MO. He was also preceded by his sisters: Dolores Collins, Denise Collins, Jean Cullen, Joan Schaeffler; & brother, Norbert Holthaus. Funeral Information Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in St. Patricks Catholic Church, Pana at 10:00 a.m. with Celebrant Rev. Rodney A. Schwartz and Con-Celebrant Fr. Christopher Myers, S.O.L.T. . Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana with graveside military rites by Roy Ireland Post #317 American Legion, Oconee.
