Mr. Delbert L. Pickett Obituary (1932 - 2005)

Delbert L. Pickett Delbert L. Pickett, 73, of Pana, died Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 4:35 p.m. in his residence. He was born February 22, 1932 in Fayette County, Lexington, KY where he grew up, the son of William Louis Audella Cassity Pickett, deceased. Delbert attended Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln where he met Carleen Sefton. They were married on April 10, 1954 in the Christian Church Parsonage in Brownstown with the Rev. Jack Busby officiating. Delbert served in the U. S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was in the service from May 1954 to August 1955. Delbert later lived in Brownstown, working and evangelizing in the area through music until moving to Pana in 1957 to start a Jewel Tea Dealership, owning a franchise and retiring in 1987. Since retirement, Delbert has worked at Parkview Buick and was a licensed real estate sales person working with his son, Robin. He was currently employed by Bob Ridings. Delbert was a member of Pana Christian Church where he served in various leadership positions, life member of the NRA, Amateur Trap Shooters Association, accomplishing breaking 200 consecutive targets and currently held a 27-yard handicap. He was an avid golfer, accomplishing four holes-in-one. He is survived by his wife, Carleen Pickett, Pana, IL; son, Robin Pickett wife Sue, Springfield, IL; daughters, Debi Wemple husband Tim, Joplin, MO and Karla Bland husband Rod, Pana, IL; 11 grandchildren: Becky McDannald husband Miles, Josh Wemple wife Rachel, Bethany Harper husband Ryan, Seth Wemple, Cory Bland wife Lori, Carter Bland, Natasha Phillips husband Harold, Michalea Bland, Maggie, Annie Luke Pickett; 3 great grandchildren; brothers: Gordon G. Pickett wife Mary Jo, Corinth, KY and Irwin L. Pickett wife Heike, Versailles, KY. Funeral Information Funeral services will be Sunday, September 11, 2005 in Pana Christian Church, 1005 E. 6th St., Pana at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Bob Phillips, Keith Sproat and Bill Rosnett officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana. Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana and Sunday one hour prior to services at Pana Christian Church.
